Build an answer to source inspection sheet
Imagine a commercial roofer discovering an AI answer that describes its emergency repair service as a complete replacement package. The useful question is whether the answer has confused two offers, where that confusion may originate, and what the business can correct. A citation alone does not resolve those questions. This is an illustrative review exercise, not a report about a real roofer or search result.
Create one row for the exact answer statement and a second column for the wording on the linked destination. Record whether the source supports the entire statement, only part of it, or a different claim. Preserve the question, observation date, product surface and destination URL. If a reviewer cannot reproduce an answer, retain the original capture and label the later observation separately.
Now give the source page a buyer test. Can a facilities manager distinguish repair assessment, temporary protection and replacement planning? Does each have the right inquiry route? If the page blurs those services, revise its explanation and supporting links. If the page is already clear, preserve that finding; an inaccurate generated answer does not automatically justify rewriting correct source material.
The finished artifact should fit a short working meeting. It contains the original observation, the matching source passage, the business owner’s approved service description and one decision. That decision might be a page correction, a monitoring follow up or no change. Keeping the evidence together makes subsequent reviews comparable without pretending the business controls an external answer.
| Decision | Working example | Usable output |
|---|---|---|
| Claim | Repair described as full replacement | Exact statement and capture |
| Source | Page combines separate services | Approved service distinction |
| Action | Repair and replacement need different paths | Revised page plus destination check |
Use the AI answer kit to organize approved business facts, then bring the inspection sheet to an AI SEO review.
AI search visibility is easier to discuss when each claim names the evidence behind it. A page can be accessible without being selected. A business can be cited without receiving a visit. A visit can arrive without becoming a suitable inquiry. These are different stages, and a useful report keeps them separate.
This guide explains what a business owner can verify, what platform reports currently show, and how to turn findings into practical website work. Platform details were checked against official documentation on 7 September 2026. The workflow recommendations are editorial suggestions for organizing your own evidence, not a promise of inclusion.
Use four questions to organize the work
- Fit
- Explain the service scope.
- Trust
- Show supporting evidence.
- Next step
- Give a clear contact route.
| Question | Evidence to request | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Can the system access the page? | Response status, rendered text, crawler and infrastructure checks | The page will be selected |
| Does the page answer the need? | Actual service information, source support, useful explanation | A platform gives it a hidden authority score |
| Has visibility been observed? | Named platform report or dated observation | The same response appears for every person |
| Did the business benefit? | Relevant visits, inquiries, bookings, or other defined outcomes | Every outcome was caused by one content change |
Ask an agency or internal team to identify which question each activity addresses. Fixing a blocked page concerns access. Publishing a sourced service explanation concerns usefulness. Reviewing citation data concerns observed visibility. Keeping the categories clear prevents one completed technical task from being sold as proof of commercial performance.
Build information that can be checked
Start with the facts a prospective customer needs: identity, actual services, service area, process, limitations, and a clear next step. Add evidence where you make a performance, comparison, or research claim. Keep the source adjacent to the statement and preserve its date and scope.
Use the AI Answer Kit to organize supplied facts, and follow the business facts workflow when the site currently tells several inconsistent versions of the offer. A source field is not automatic verification; a person should check whether the source supports the wording.
A practical page review asks what the visitor can learn here that is not merely generic advice. Examples might include a clear project process, documented limitations, a worked calculation, or an honestly scoped case study. Choose material the business can substantiate. Do not manufacture a study, a citation count, or an industry benchmark to make the page look authoritative.
Know what Google says is required
Google's current generative AI search guide says special schema is unnecessary and llms.txt does not improve Google visibility. Core search access and useful content remain the foundation. Treat a proposed special file as a separate technical convenience only when an actual system uses it.
Structured data can describe the page's real facts, but it should not contain a stronger business claim than the visible page. Validation can find syntax problems; it cannot prove that a claimed result or credential is true. Keep the editorial evidence record and the implementation review connected.
Check the current Google inclusion control
Google now documents a Search generative AI control under Search Console Settings. Its official help page says the control rolled out worldwide on 31 August 2026, with inclusion as the default and possible inheritance from a parent property. Review the actual setting for the property when you have authorized access.
Do not confuse an account setting with page markup. A developer cannot confirm the account state simply by looking at a source file. Record who checked the property, when it was checked, and whether any parent setting applies. Keep that operational note out of customer facing copy unless it helps explain a specific issue.
Read Google's AI report in the right units
The separate Generative AI performance report documents impressions in supported AI search features, including AI Overviews and AI Mode. It provides page, country, device, and date views. A missing report can reflect insufficient activity. It is not a complete per prompt citation or ranking log.
This distinction matters when reviewing an ordinary Search Console export. A Web performance file containing clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position is not automatically the dedicated AI report. Label the data source precisely. The Search Opportunity Finder works with ordinary Web exports; do not describe its results as AI answer measurements.
Keep a copy of each report's filters and observation period. If a dashboard combines several data sources, ask which numbers come from which source and whether their definitions match. A useful report should remain understandable after the person who built it leaves the room.
Use Bing's citation data without turning it into a ranking
Bing's AI Performance documentation describes citations, cited pages, and sampled grounding queries across supported experiences. Bing explicitly distinguishes citation frequency from placement or ranking inside an individual answer. Use the metrics to see which material is being referenced and where further investigation may help.
Compare pages with their purpose in mind. A useful guide may attract references while a contact page rarely does. That does not make the contact page unimportant. Review whether the guide explains the topic accurately and whether the path from that information to the relevant service is clear.
Bing also recommends truthful sitemap modification dates and change notifications through IndexNow. Its sitemap guidance describes discovery and freshness. A submitted URL should be recorded as submitted, not as guaranteed indexed or cited.
Separate OpenAI's crawlers by purpose
- Home → service
- Link the service to project proof.
- Home → guide
- Link the guide to the next useful question.
The OpenAI crawler documentation distinguishes OAI SearchBot for search, GPTBot for possible training use, and ChatGPT User for user initiated visits. Search access and training preferences are separate choices. Check both robots.txt and infrastructure behavior against the policy the site owner intends.
A successful request to the homepage does not establish that every important page is accessible. Check representative service pages, articles, and essential assets. If a firewall rule blocks legitimate access, resolve the specific policy conflict instead of disabling protections indiscriminately. Keep the final action aligned with the owner's actual publishing preference.
Make the site usable by a delegated visitor
Some people ask an agent to gather information or help complete a task. A stable interface helps that process. Google's agent friendly website guidance emphasizes clear semantic controls, labels, states, and layouts. Those are useful design requirements for people as well.
For a business site, inspect practical actions: open the service details, use a calculator, copy a result, download a brief, or prepare a contact request. The visible interface should explain what will happen and what has happened. A button should not claim a meeting is booked before a booking service confirms it.
Create a reviewable evidence pack
A compact evidence pack can include the reviewed URLs, a facts and sources record, a technical access note, exact report names and filters, a change log, and a short list of business outcomes. For each proposed conclusion, write the observation first and the interpretation second.
If a team tests public prompts manually, retain the prompt, date, platform, and observed response. Label the result as a sample observation. Do not convert a small prompt set into a universal share of voice claim unless the methodology supports that interpretation.
Use the evidence ledger workflow to keep claims scoped. For background terminology, read Trojan's SEO, AEO and GEO overview. When you are ready to improve the underlying site, discuss Trojan's search services using this evidence pack as the starting point. It makes the proposed work, its purpose, and its limits much easier to assess.
