Plainfield's Downtown, Warehouse District and Town Permit Rules
Plainfield's historic district has buildings along Main Street, which is also US 40, and I-70 meets SR 267 at an interchange in town. The Plainfield Chamber of Commerce says the warehouse district on the east side of town covers more than 1,000 acres. Warehouse district, Innovation Park and Perry Crossing

- Visit Indiana lists The Shops at Perry Crossing as an open-air center off US 40 and Perry Road. It says the center opened in 2005 as a lifestyle center called Metropolis and was renamed in 2015. Visit Indiana
Plainfield's Improvement Location Permits, signs and home occupations
- The Town of Plainfield's Permits page lists commercial permit types, including building and site, tenant improvement, accessory building, pool and electrical. It says plans are submitted through iWorQ, the Town's permit management system. Town of Plainfield
- For commercial and industrial projects, the Town's FAQ says public hearings before the Plan Commission or Board of Zoning Appeals usually come first. It also says Construction Plan approval comes before any permits, and a building permit waits until an address is assigned. Town of Plainfield
- The Town's FAQ says most signs need a Sign Improvement Location Permit. Article 7 of the Zoning Ordinance regulates the location, type, number and size of signs. Town of Plainfield
- Article 4.3 of Plainfield's zoning ordinance limits a home occupation to family members who live in the home, plus at most one nonresident employee. - A State of Indiana announcement says the extended Vandalia Trail now runs from near Township Line Road to Raceway Road, at the county line. It describes the new section as 2.32 miles of asphalt multi-use trail that opened in October 2023. State of Indiana
- Visit Hendricks County lists the Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza at Hummel Park, 1500 S. Center St., presented by Guilford Township Hummel Park. The 2026 listing says it's free, with fireworks at 9:55 p.m. Visit Hendricks County
- Visit Hendricks County listed Plainfield Quaker Days, an annual festival that celebrates the town's Quaker heritage, for September 17 to 20, 2026. Visit Hendricks County
Plainfield's growth since 2020 and its renter share
