Google Seasonal Hours for Warsaw and Winona Lake Businesses

During lake season, set your seasonal hours as your regular hours on Google and add special hours for show nights and holiday weekends. In the off season, mark the profile temporarily closed, then reopen it with regular hours.

Google's rule for seasonal hours is simple: during your season, set those hours as your regular hours and add special hours for holidays and events. In the off season, mark the profile temporarily closed, then set your regular hours again when you reopen. Around Warsaw, Winona Lake, North Webster, Syracuse and Lake Tippecanoe, much of summer runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. A profile that hasn't caught up with that calendar sends people to a locked door.

Why lake season breaks normal business hours

The lakes set the calendar here. Visit Kosciusko County says the county has over 100 lakes, “making water recreation the center of many of our communities”. Its tourism impact page reports 2.1 million visitors in 2024. The Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation (KEDCO) counts recreation among the county's strong industries.

Visitors who drive out for the water ask simple questions. Is the ice cream shop open after the ski show? Is the boat rental open on a Tuesday in September? The visitors bureau's own dining page tells people to check with restaurants before they visit. Your Google profile should give them a straight answer, and keeping it right is a big part of Warsaw, Indiana local SEO for lake businesses.

“If Google says you're open and the dock's locked, that family drove out for nothing. Set your season before Memorial Day and close it out after Labor Day.”

Jeff Clerisier, founder of Trojan Digital Marketing

Warsaw's city beaches set a good example. The Center Lake Beach page lists one set of hours for May 1 to Sept 30 and another for Oct 1 to Apr 30. In the warm months it's open 6 AM to 10 PM, and the rest of the year 7 AM to 8 PM. A seasonal business needs that same clarity on its own profile.

Google's rules for seasonal businesses

Google spells out the seasonal rules in its guidelines for representing your business. The list is short.

  • During your season, set your regular hours of operation.
  • Add special hours for holidays, temporary closures or other events.
  • If you're open only for part of the year, you can say so in your business description.
  • In the off season, mark the business temporarily closed, then set regular hours when you reopen.

The hours section adds one helpful line: you “may use your current seasonal hours as your regular hours”. So in July, your July hours are your regular hours. You don't have to squeeze a whole year into one schedule.

Two more rules matter for lake businesses. Businesses that show an address on Google “should maintain permanent fixed signage of their business name at the address”, so the sign stays up all year. Google also says businesses with varied hours, like showtimes, shouldn't list hours, and neither should event venues or natural features. If you run shows or tours on a timetable, put the timetable in posts and on your website. Our Google Business Profile optimization guide covers the rest of the profile.

Special hours for show nights and holiday weekends

Special hours cover the short changes. Google's special hours page covers any temporary change of hours, or a closure of up to 6 days in a row. It lists holidays, special events and other exceptional circumstances. It also recommends checking your holiday hours, even on days they don't differ from your usual schedule.

Show nights are a good example. The Lake City Skiers put on free shows at Hidden Lake, on the southwest corner of US 30 and Indiana 15. Their 2026 calendar listed home shows from May 31 to September 6, on Sunday and Tuesday evenings. The pre-show started at 5:45 pm and the feature show at 6:30 pm. If you stay open late for the crowd every show night, those are your regular summer hours. If it's only a few nights, add each date as special hours.

Holiday weekends work the same way. The Wawasee Flotilla, a parade of decorated boats on Lake Wawasee, was set for July 4 in 2026. Memorial Day, the Fourth and Labor Day are the dates to check first.

Plan ahead for 2027, too. The Lake City Skiers will host the 2027 IWWF World Water Ski Show Championship at Hidden Lake on September 15-19, 2027. Its bleachers hold up to 3,000 spectators. That week falls after Labor Day, so a business nearby may want special hours even after its season winds down.

One more tool is More hours. Google's special hours page says More hours are for specific services with different times, like delivery and takeout. Google's guidelines add that they should be a subset of your main hours. A rental counter that closes before the gift shop could use them.

Temporarily closed for the off season, and reopening

When the season ends, change the status. Google's page on marking a business closed says to use “Temporarily closed” if you're closed for more than 7 days, for the off season or indefinitely. In Edit profile, open Hours, choose Edit next to Hours, then pick Temporarily closed and save.

That status helps people who search your name see that the closure is only temporary. Google also notes a tradeoff: on broad searches, a profile marked temporarily closed may show below businesses that are open. That's a good reason to reopen on time. Never mark a seasonal business permanently closed, since that tells people you're gone.

Reopening is quick. Google's reopening page says that once you reopen, the profile is no longer marked closed on Maps and Search. You choose Open with main hours, check each day you're open and set the times. Do it the morning you open the doors, since Google's guidelines say to set regular hours when you reopen.

Warsaw, Winona Lake and the ZIP on your profile

The address on your profile should match where you really are. Google asks for an accurate, precise address and wants the profile built for your actual, real-world location. That matters here because Warsaw and Winona Lake addresses can carry different ZIP codes.

Warsaw itself uses more than one. The City of Warsaw lists City Hall at 102 S Buffalo Street, Warsaw, IN 46580. KEDCO's office on North Pointe Drive uses 46582. The Town of Winona Lake lists its office at 1310 Park Ave, Winona Lake, IN 46590. The Town of Syracuse lists 310 N Huntington St, Syracuse, IN 46567. So check which town and ZIP your own mail uses, and put exactly that on Google.

Two related rules help. Google doesn't accept P.O. boxes as a business address. If you serve customers at their docks or homes and don't run a storefront, Google says to hide your address and set a service area. Our post on why a business isn't showing on Google Maps covers what to check if an address edit goes wrong.

Posts and photos that say the season has started

Posts tell people the season has started. Google's posts help page lists three kinds: updates, offers and events. An event post takes a title, start and end dates and times. Leave the times off and Google shows the event as lasting 24 hours on those dates.

Two settings fit lake businesses well. You can schedule a post ahead of time, so your opening post goes up on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. You can also set a post to repeat weekly, which suits a show night or a Friday special. Google archives posts older than 6 months unless they have a date range, so last summer's posts drop away on their own.

Photos should match the season too. Google says an exterior photo helps customers recognize your business when they visit. It also asks for photos that are in focus, well lit and true to life. Add a fresh one the week the docks go in or the patio opens. Our guide to Business Profile services and photos covers which shots to take. If your posts link to a booking page, UTM tags on your profile links show which ones bring visits.

What the season looks like around each lake

Warsaw. Visit Kosciusko County calls Warsaw the City of Lakes, with Center Lake, Pike Lake and Hidden Lake. City lifeguards cover the beaches from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend as staffing allows. The city's Summer Concert Series plays every Friday from May through August at two outdoor venues, drawing 300 to 400 people. Shops near the venues can set Friday hours to match.

Winona Lake. The Village at Winona is the town's shopping area, with outdoor dining by the Winona Lake Canal in the warm summer months. The public beach is on Park Ave. Winter brings its own season, since the Miller Sunset Pavilion runs as an ice rink in the winter months. A business that serves skaters may need winter hours as well as summer ones.

North Webster. Known as the Heart of the Lakes, North Webster sits on Webster Lake, with a public beach in the town park on Himes St. The Dixie sternwheeler runs evening cruises from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, plus daytime cruises on Sundays. That's the kind of clear start and end your own profile should show.

Syracuse. Syracuse is home to Syracuse Lake and Lake Wawasee, which Visit Kosciusko County calls Indiana's largest natural lake. The two lakes are joined by a channel, and Lakeside Park & Beach on Syracuse Lake is the largest park in the Syracuse Parks system. The Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams lists public access to Lake Wawasee at Hatchery Rd. and CR 1000N.

Lake Tippecanoe. The Lilly Center at Grace College calls Lake Tippecanoe the deepest natural lake in Indiana, with a maximum depth of 122 feet. Its public access is through Grassy Creek, south of North Webster on SR 13 and then west on Armstrong. On lake roads like that one, check that your map pin sits where customers actually arrive.

A Memorial Day to Labor Day checklist

  • Two weeks before Memorial Day weekend, switch your regular hours to your summer hours.
  • Add special hours for Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day, and confirm them even if they match your regular hours.
  • Add a line to your business description saying when your season runs.
  • Schedule an update post for the start of the season, with a fresh exterior photo.
  • Set weekly repeating posts for show nights or Friday specials.
  • Check your address, ZIP code and map pin, especially in Winona Lake.
  • The week after Labor Day, set fall hours or mark the profile temporarily closed.
  • Mark September 15-19, 2027 for the water ski show championship at Hidden Lake.
  • On reopening day, choose Open with main hours and set your regular hours.

If you'd rather not track this yourself, Google Business Profile optimization covers the hours, posts and photos through the year.

Seasonal hours questions

How do I set seasonal hours on my Google Business Profile?

During your season, set those hours as your regular hours, which Google's guidelines allow. Add special hours for holidays and events, and mention your season in the business description. In the off season, mark the profile temporarily closed. When you reopen, choose Open with main hours and set your regular hours again.

Should a seasonal business mark itself temporarily closed?

Yes, for the off season. Google's help page says to use Temporarily closed when you're closed for more than 7 days, for the off season or indefinitely. Shorter closures use special hours. Google notes that on broad searches a temporarily closed profile may appear below open businesses, so reopen it on time.

Which ZIP code should a Winona Lake business use on Google?

Use the town and ZIP on your own mail. The Town of Winona Lake lists its office at 1310 Park Ave, Winona Lake, IN 46590. Warsaw's City Hall on Buffalo Street uses 46580, and KEDCO's Warsaw office uses 46582. Google asks for an accurate, precise address for your real-world location.

How should I handle late hours on ski show nights?

If you stay open late every show night, make those your regular summer hours. If it's only a few nights, add each date as special hours. The Lake City Skiers' 2026 home shows ran on Sunday and Tuesday evenings from May 31 to September 6, with the feature show at 6:30 pm.
