You don’t need to master every platform to make better marketing decisions. Tie each lesson to a job your business has to do, like explaining an offer, answering a buying question or following up on an inquiry. The free course comes from Trojan Digital Marketing, based in Indianapolis. If you’d like help applying a lesson, the first strategy call is free, and during business hours we aim to reply within five minutes.

Our course has ten modules, thirty written lessons and a twenty question final quiz. It covers foundations, your digital presence, SEO, AEO, GEO, AI assisted marketing, email, paid advertising, content and video, and a ninety day plan. This guide helps you use that material as a practical learning path.

Choose a business decision to work on

Before opening the first lesson, write down one decision you want to make more confidently. Perhaps you need to improve a service page, choose a first marketing channel, or understand what an agency proposal includes. A specific decision gives your study a purpose and makes it easier to recognize useful information.

A hypothetical home cleaning business might choose: “Help suitable customers understand our recurring cleaning service and request a conversation.” That goal is more useful than “learn social media.” It allows the owner to connect lessons about messaging, websites, search, and follow up to one customer journey.

Keep the scope small enough to test. You don’t need a redesign or a new campaign budget to learn. When we work with an owner, we’d usually start with one service page, because that’s where a buyer decides whether to call. You might begin with one page, one customer question, and one measurable next step. Expand when you understand what the first exercise revealed.

Use the course structure as a map

The course begins with marketing fundamentals and moves toward channels and execution. Follow that sequence if the subject is new to you. If you already work in marketing, use the module titles to locate gaps, but check that your decisions still connect to the business goal rather than becoming isolated technical exercises.

Learn the offer before choosing the channel

It’s tempting to start with whichever platform you hear about most. We start with the customer’s problem and whether the business can actually solve it. Write a plain description of the service, who it fits, what happens next, and what evidence supports the promise.

For the cleaning business example, “premium solutions for every lifestyle” leaves a reader with questions. A more useful explanation might describe recurring home cleaning, the actual service area, how scheduling works, and how to request an initial estimate. Skip any line that only makes the business sound bigger. Every sentence should make the customer’s choice easier.

Only then consider where the intended customer looks for help. A search page, an email to an existing audience, and a short demonstration video can serve different roles. Your learning plan should help you select a role before asking you to produce more content.

Turn every study session into an application

Use a four part routine: read a lesson, restate its main idea, apply it to a real example, and record what you still do not understand. The restatement checks comprehension. The application tests whether you can use the idea when a page or campaign is imperfect.

After a website lesson, open your own service page and identify the next action. After an email lesson, draft a message for a clearly defined audience and explain why the offer fits. After an AI lesson, decide what information a human must check before the output can be published.

  • Keep one working document for examples and decisions.
  • Record the lesson or module that prompted each exercise.
  • Separate assumptions from information supplied by the business.
  • Write a completion check for anything you plan to publish.
  • Return to unclear ideas before adding another channel.

Keep search and AI concepts connected

SEO, AEO, and GEO are useful terms for discussing different search and answer experiences, but they should not turn into three unrelated versions of your website. A clear service explanation, accurate business information, and useful evidence can support several discovery contexts at once.

Google explains that its AI features use the same foundational SEO practices without a special additional markup requirement. Use the course to understand the vocabulary, then evaluate proposed tactics against current primary guidance. Avoid treating a new label as proof that an old, useful practice has become irrelevant.

Our existing guide to search, answer, and AI optimization for Indiana businesses provides a broader discussion of how those subjects fit together. Keep your own exercise focused on a real customer question and a truthful answer.

Choose a study pace you can sustain

The course is self paced, so build sessions around the time you can protect. Completing a module quickly is less useful than leaving it with an example you understand. Some topics may be familiar, while others require you to inspect a page, speak with a colleague, or revisit a definition.

Our course saves your progress in your browser only. Keep your application notes in a separate document so the work survives a new device or cleared browsing data. Treat the progress indicator as a navigation aid; it does not replace your record of what you changed and why.

A manageable rhythm might be one focused reading session followed by one application session. Treat that as a suggestion. We can’t promise how long it takes to get good at marketing, so slow down whenever the business needs you more.

Use the quiz to identify gaps

The final quiz helps you check your understanding of the course. Read the explanations, especially when a wrong answer reveals a distinction you overlooked. A completed quiz is useful feedback, but applying an idea to an unfamiliar situation provides another important check.

For example, can you explain why a campaign with many clicks might still fail to generate suitable inquiries? Can you distinguish a website audit score from observed search performance? Can you identify information that should be checked before publishing an AI assisted draft? These questions test reasoning rather than recognition of a term.

Use our guide to testing marketing knowledge with real decisions to extend the quiz into practical exercises. You do not need to get every decision right immediately; you need a reliable way to notice uncertainty and investigate it.

Build one plan from what you learned

When the main concepts feel connected, choose a small group of actions for the next quarter. Include foundational repairs, one useful content project, and a measurement routine. Assign an owner to each action and identify the dependencies that must be resolved before it can begin.

Our course to action planning guide walks through that step with a worked example. Keep the learning plan and execution plan related but distinct: understanding paid advertising does not mean you must launch ads immediately.

If execution requires support, our Indiana digital marketing services can help turn the plan into an appropriate scope of work. You can also continue independently with the free course. The practical result is a stronger ability to explain the decision, identify the evidence, and choose a next step that fits the business.
