For a small Carmel business, the holiday ads worth running follow the Christkindlmarkt calendar at Carter Green, November 21 through December 24, 2026. Keep the ads close to City Center, run them while the market's open, lead with gift cards and dinner, and stop them on Christmas Eve. Visit Hamilton County's Christkindlmarkt listing has the dates and hours this plan is built around. If you'd like help putting it together, our page on marketing for Carmel, Indiana businesses explains how that work is scoped.
What the market season changes in Carmel
The market changes who's on the sidewalk, and when. Visit Hamilton County's Carmel guide describes a German-style holiday market, with skating on Carter Green and live shows in the Winter Pavilion. The event listing puts it at 10 Carter Green, between the Palladium and the Tarkington, and entry is free.
The hours are what your ads should copy. WRTV reported the regular 2026 schedule as 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday. The market is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and on Thanksgiving, November 26. The Reporter lists two extra open days, Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22, from noon to 9 p.m. It also shows Christmas Eve closing early, at 4 p.m.
Two dates mark the start of the season. A Wundernacht preview for guests 21 and over is set for Thursday, November 19. Visit Hamilton County then lists the tree lighting for opening day, Saturday, November 21. From there the season has five weekends, the last one ending December 20, plus weeknight evenings and the final days before Christmas.
Who's close by: City Center, Midtown Plaza and the Arts & Design District
Your ads should cover the walk between four places.
Carmel City Center. Visit Hamilton County describes City Center as upscale dining and shopping beside the Palladium concert hall. The market's on Carter Green, between the Palladium and the Tarkington, so City Center restaurants and shops sit closest to the crowd.
Arts & Design District. Visit Hamilton County pitches it as a place to sip and stroll through Old Town Carmel, past galleries, antique shops and the showrooms at the Indiana Design Center. The district's gallery walk falls on the second Saturday of each month. By that rule, December's walk lands on Saturday, December 12, in the middle of the market season.
Midtown Plaza. Midtown Plaza sits on the Monon Trail between the district and City Center, with a lawn, a music stage and ping pong tables, says Visit Hamilton County. A business here is on the path between the market and Old Town.
Monon Greenway. The Monon Greenway ties the district to Midtown and carries on south to downtown Indianapolis. Visit Hamilton County says the trail covers 20+ miles of central Indiana, so the path itself is part of the neighborhood your ads should reach.
Search ads for people planning a market visit
Search ads reach people before they leave the house. Someone planning a market night might search for dinner near the market, parking, or a gift shop nearby. Those searches can come from anywhere in the metro, so set the search campaign's location wider than the walk and let the keywords do the narrowing.
Build one ad group around searches that pair the market, Carter Green or City Center with what you sell. Write the ad the way a visitor thinks: what you offer, the walk from Carter Green and tonight's closing time. Don't suggest a tie to the Christkindlmarkt that you don't have. Searches for skating tickets or vendor spots won't turn into dinner, so add those words as negative keywords. Send the click to a page with your hours, a map from the market and the offer. Plan that page with a paid search landing page brief, then design it.
Google Ads shows ads all day by default, and its ad schedule lets you choose the days and hours they run. For search, start a few hours before the market opens each day, so you're there while people make plans.
Social ads for people a short walk away
Social ads do the other job, reaching people who are already near Carter Green.
The platforms limit how small that circle can be. Google Ads needs a radius of at least 1 km, and it warns that very small targets may show ads only now and then, or never. Meta says its radius limits vary by location type. Draw the smallest circle around City Center that still delivers, and let the ad say you're a short walk from Carter Green if that's true.
“People decide where to eat during the market while they're standing in the cold. Your ad has to show tonight's hours and the walk from Carter Green. That's what they're checking.”
Jeff Clerisier, founder of Trojan Digital Marketing
Keep the market ads in their own ad set. Meta says every ad in an ad set shares the same audience, placement, budget and schedule. A separate ad set lets the market audience and hours change without touching the rest of your account. Use a real photo of your storefront or a table, the offer and your hours. If you'd rather hand the setup to someone, our paid ad campaigns page covers how search and social campaigns get built.
Schedules and a stop date for a five-week season
Copy the market's hours into your schedules. Run social ads on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 4 to 9 p.m., and from noon on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Pause them on Mondays and Tuesdays, when the market's closed, and on Thanksgiving. December 21 and 22 need a change by hand, because an ad schedule repeats every week.
Then set an end date. Google Ads campaigns have no end date by default, and a campaign with one ends at 11:59 p.m. on that day in your account's time zone. The market closes at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, so a December 24 end date leaves market ads running all evening. If an offer only makes sense with the crowd outside, end that campaign on December 23, or pause it by hand that afternoon.
Plan the money the same way. Weekends carry the longest market hours, so they deserve the biggest share of the budget. Our guide to seasonal marketing budget planning shows how to set those shares from your own sales. Write down the amount for each weekend before November 21, so nobody raises it in a rush on a busy Saturday.
Offers that fit: gift cards, dinner and pickup
The offer should fit how people use the market.
- Gift cards. They're easy to buy on a phone and easy to give, and someone has to come back in to use them. Census QuickFacts puts Carmel's median household income at $141,505, so test a higher card amount next to your usual one. Not every market visitor lives in Carmel, so let sales tell you which amount works.
- Dinner. On Wednesday and Thursday the market opens at 4 p.m., so an early table or a set menu gives people a plan for the whole evening. On weekends, a late seating after the market closes does the same job.
- Pickup. Let people order gifts or food online and collect them on the way to or from Carter Green, so nobody carries bags around the rink. On Christmas Eve, a pickup window before the market's 4 p.m. close can be your last sale of the season.
Whatever you choose, put the same offer, dates and hours on your Google Business Profile. Our notes on Carmel Google Maps optimization cover keeping that profile accurate. Give the offer an end date in writing, so the ad, the profile and the sign in your window all stop on the same day.
Signs and banners: what Carmel's permits allow
Check with the city before anything goes up outside. Sign permits go through Carmel's Planning & Zoning office, which you can reach at 317-571-2417. The city's permits page lists an online sign permit application, a public event sign permit and separate temporary use permit applications.
The public event sign permit is written for public events, so don't assume a shop's holiday sale qualifies. Its form sets a standard 3-foot by 8-foot horizontal format for banners at Carmel intersections. It also asks for a proof from the print company and caps preferred banner dates at two weeks. The same form covers the Merchants Square reader board at Keystone Avenue and 116th Street, which takes public event messages only from organizations with an approved declaration. Outdoor sales and special events go through the city's temporary use permit page.
What to measure on December 26
The day after Christmas, put the season's numbers on one page.
- Gift card sales by week, next to the same weeks last year.
- Sales or tables served on market nights, next to Mondays and Tuesdays when the market was closed.
- Redemptions of an offer code that only ran in market ads.
- Calls, direction requests and website visits from your Business Profile during market hours.
- Ad spend per redeemed offer, worked out from your own figures.
Mondays and Tuesdays are your built-in comparison, because they're the regular days the market stays closed. Write down what you'd change while it's fresh, and start next fall's plan from those notes. Our Carmel market page keeps the districts, ZIP codes and permit links in one place for when you do.
Christkindlmarkt ad questions
When does the Carmel Christkindlmarkt run in 2026?
Visit Hamilton County and WRTV give November 21 through December 24, 2026, at Carter Green. Regular hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays, except December 21 and 22, and closed on Thanksgiving. Check the posted schedule before you set ad hours.
How small can a holiday ad radius be?
Google Ads needs a radius of at least 1 km, and it warns that very small targets may show ads only now and then, or never. Meta says its radius limits vary by location type. Start with the smallest circle around City Center that still delivers, and let your keywords and ad copy narrow the rest.
When should holiday ads for the market stop?
Stop them when the market stops. A Google Ads end date ends a campaign at 11:59 p.m. on that day, and the market closes at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. If an offer depends on the crowd, end that campaign on December 23 or pause it by hand on the afternoon of December 24.
Can a Carmel shop hang a banner for a holiday sale?
Ask the city first. Carmel's Planning & Zoning office reviews sign permits and takes calls at 317-571-2417. The public event sign permit is written for public events and sets a 3-foot by 8-foot format for intersection banners. Temporary use permits cover outdoor sales and special events. Find out which rule applies before you order anything.
Before the market opens
One business owner described working with Trojan Digital Marketing this way in a Google review.
“Trojan digital marketing is a great company to work with. A one stop shop for digital marketing services”
