A plan moving from scope to delivery and review

You can't edit what ChatGPT or another AI assistant says about your Fishers business, but you can fix the pages it learns from and cites. Ask a few plain questions, trace each wrong answer to the page behind it, correct that page and publish one dated fact page that every profile matches. Fishers gives assistants plenty to get wrong, because its status, its size and its landmarks all changed in the last decade.

AI assistants answer from text they've already read. Part of it comes from older training text, and part comes from pages they pull up when they search the web. If the newest page about your business still carries an old fact, the assistant has little reason to say anything else.

Fishers changes faster than that text. In about ten years it went from a town to a city, gained a state cultural district downtown, opened an arena and annexed new neighborhoods. Older pages about each change still sit on directories, news sites and business websites, and assistants can still read them.

Our Fishers AI SEO, AEO and GEO page explains how we organize those facts for assistants, and you can do the same steps yourself.

Town or city: the 2015 change AI tools still mix up

Fishers has been a city since 2015. The City of Fishers history page says Fishers was incorporated as a town in 1891. It turned into a city on January 1, 2015. In 2012, voters rejected a modified city plan that would have folded Fishers and Fall Creek Township together. They chose second-class city status.

Older text often still says the town of Fishers. Check your footer, your About page, your Google Business Profile description and any press release on your site. If one of them still says town, an assistant reading it may say town too. Fixing it takes minutes, and it shows every reader the page is current.

Places that opened after the training data

New place names are easy for assistants to miss. If your business sits in one of these areas, use the current name on your own pages, along with the nearest main street. The Fishers business guide keeps the districts and ZIP codes in one place.

  • Nickel Plate District. It became a Statewide Cultural District in December 2018, according to the Indiana Arts Commission. It covers downtown Fishers, west of I-69 at 116th Street.
  • Fishers District, The Crossing and The Union. Fishers District covers 123 acres by I-69 and 116th Street, and Thompson Thrift calls it a $750 million master-planned development. The Crossing is home to the Fishers Event Center, which opened in November 2024, according to the developer's announcement. Thompson Thrift's page for The Union at Fishers District plans a 135-room boutique hotel and 251 apartments, plus retail and office space. An answer built from older text may not know any of these exist, so a business nearby should name them plainly.
  • Geist. The Encyclopedia of Indianapolis says Fishers annexed the area around Geist Reservoir in 2009. Roughly 2,200 homes in Fall Creek Township then joined its taxing district in 2011. An assistant may still describe those neighborhoods as outside Fishers, so say Fishers on the page if you're inside city limits.

Fourth-largest city: a claim with a date attached

Size claims go out of date quickly. On June 5, 2025, the city announced that an annexation in southeastern Hamilton County was complete, Current in Fishers reported. The city said that made Fishers the fourth-largest city in Indiana, trailing only Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville, with South Bend and Carmel now behind it.

The race was close. WISH-TV and IBJ put the 2024 estimate at 103,986 for Fishers and 103,606 for Carmel. The annexation then added about 3,000 more residents. With numbers that close, an answer built on older estimates may still call Carmel the bigger city.

If your site repeats the claim, give it a source and a date, as in the city's June 2025 statement. A dated line stays accurate even after the next estimate comes out.

Test five prompts and save every answer

Run the same questions in each assistant your customers use. Start a fresh chat for each one and type the way a customer would.

  1. What does [your business] in Fishers, Indiana do, and what are its hours?
  2. Where is [your business], and what's it close to?
  3. Is Fishers, Indiana a town or a city?
  4. Which [your service] companies serve Geist and the Nickel Plate District?
  5. Does [your business] serve the part of Fishers annexed in 2025?

Save every answer with the date, the tool, the exact prompt and any links it cites. A spreadsheet is enough. That log lets you show later that a fix took hold, and our guide to logging AI citations with sources and dates has a simple format.

Trace each wrong fact back to a page you can fix

A wrong answer usually traces back to a page. When the assistant cites links, open each one and look for the old fact. When it cites nothing, search the wrong phrase in quotes and see which pages still say it.

Sort what you find into two groups.

  • Pages you control. These include your website, your Google Business Profile, your social profiles and any directory listing you can log into. Fix them first, on the same day.
  • Pages you can ask about. These include news stories, old partner press releases and directories you don't manage. Many have a contact or correction form, so send the current fact with a link to your dated page.

Watch for postal city mix-ups too. According to a ZIP code site built on USPS data, Fishers is the postal city name for 46037 and 46038. Some ZIPs next door reach into the city under other towns' names, like 46040, which uses Fortville. If your address uses one of those, name Fishers in your page text so an assistant doesn't place you in the wrong town.

Publish one dated fact page and match it everywhere

Put your current facts on one page of your own site. Give it a plain title and a line that says when you last checked it.

  • Your legal name, plus the name on your sign if it's different.
  • Your street address, with Fishers as the city when you're inside city limits.
  • Your service area, named town by town.
  • Your hours, including how you handle holidays.
  • Nearby landmarks by their current names, such as the Nickel Plate District or Fishers District.
  • What you don't do, so nobody has to guess.

Then match every profile to that page, word for word where you can. Our guide to building a business facts page has a template. Keeping business facts consistent across search journeys covers who updates what when something changes.

“AI tools repeat what they found last. If your own site still says the old thing, so will they. Fix that page first and put a date on it.”

Jeff Clerisier, founder of Trojan Digital Marketing

Recheck the five prompts every few months. Run them again after any change to your hours, address or services, and add each new answer to the log. Our AI SEO services can take that routine off your plate if you'd rather hand it off.

Questions Fishers owners ask about AI answers

Can I ask ChatGPT to correct wrong information about my business?

You can flag a wrong answer with the feedback buttons, but the lasting fix sits on the pages assistants read. Correct your own site and Google Business Profile first, then ask directories and news sites to update old details. Publish one dated fact page and point every profile at it.

Is Fishers, Indiana a town or a city?

It's a city. Fishers was a town from 1891 until January 1, 2015, when it became a city, according to the City of Fishers. If your website, Google Business Profile or old press pages still say town of Fishers, update them, since assistants can repeat whichever version they find.

Why does an AI tool say my Fishers business is in Fortville?

Postal city names are a likely cause. Only 46037 and 46038 use Fishers as the postal city, and parts of the city sit in ZIPs named for other towns. One of them is 46040, whose postal city is Fortville. Name Fishers in your page text and profiles if you're inside city limits.

How often should I check what AI assistants say about my business?

Run the same five prompts every few months, and again after any change to your hours, address or services. Save each answer with the date, the tool and any links it cites. Comparing the log over time shows whether your corrections are being picked up.
