SR 32 Construction in Westfield: Google and Website Updates

During the 32 Connects work, keep your Google Business Profile marked open and post an update with the detour and the Poplar and Park lot. Add the same notice to your website, and undo every temporary change when the road reopens.

During road construction, keep your Google Business Profile marked open and post an update with the detour and where to park. Use special hours only on days your hours really change. Put the same notice on your website, check your directions every week and undo every temporary change when the road reopens. Downtown Westfield businesses have needed all of this since 32 Connects started closing parts of State Road 32 in April 2025.

What 32 Connects closes in 2026

Through downtown Westfield, State Road 32 is being rebuilt under a project called 32 Connects. Contractor Rieth-Riley Construction began closing parts of the road in April 2025, according to the city. The plans scheduled the western segment and the southern half east of Union Street for 2025. For 2026 they list the roundabout at East Street and the north half of the road east of Union Street.

Road schedules can shift, so check the city's latest 32 Connects notice before you post any dates. Each part of the work lands on different doors.

  • Union Street. If your door faces the north half of State Road 32 east of Union Street, the 2026 work is the phase in front of you.
  • East Street. Work on the East Street roundabout can change how drivers reach you, so directions that worked last year may need a rewrite.
  • Grand Junction Plaza. The plaza sits at 225 S. Union Street, and its event parking uses the same nearby lots and streets your customers do.
  • The Union. The city calls The Union downtown Westfield's first mixed-use development, near Grand Junction Plaza. Its first retail and restaurant tenants were announced in July 2025, so their regulars are still forming habits.
  • US 31. INDOT's interchange list includes US 31 at State Road 32 in Westfield, so write directions that start from that exit.

Customers assume you're closed when the road is

A “Road Closed” sign at the corner can read like a closed sign on your door. If a shopper checks Google and sees nothing about the work, they'll guess. Often the guess is that you're closed or hard to reach. Regulars may try another shop for a few weeks and then stay with it.

“If the road out front is closed, people figure you're closed too. Post the detour and keep your Google hours right. Then take it all down the day the road reopens.”

Jeff Clerisier, founder of Trojan Digital Marketing

Answer the question before people ask it. Tell them you're open, how to get in and where to park. Say it on Google, on your website and at the register. Newer shops, like the ones at The Union, need this most, since their customers haven't built a habit yet. Keeping those places in step is the everyday side of Westfield digital marketing.

Business Profile updates: posts, hours and staying marked open

Your Google Business Profile is the first place to change.

  • Stay marked open. Only mark the business temporarily closed if you actually close. A closed status sends searchers elsewhere, even on days you're open.
  • Use special hours for real changes. If you open late or close early because of the work, set special hours for those dates. Leave your regular hours alone.
  • Post an update. Say what's closed, how to reach your door and where to park, with dates. Add a photo of your open entrance or sign.
  • Refresh it as the work moves. When a closure shifts to a new block, edit the post the same day.
  • Check your pin. Make sure the map pin sits on your entrance, so directions end at the right door.

If the profile needs more than a construction notice, our Google Business Profile optimization work covers categories, photos, services and reviews. For a closer look at how your listing shows up on the map, start with a Westfield Google Maps review.

Directions around the detour and the Poplar and Park lot

Write directions that work this week. City notices for Grand Junction Plaza events point drivers to the Poplar and Park Streets lot, plus street parking on Union and Mill Streets. In 2025, a city notice about the State Road 32 work told drivers arriving from US 31 to use a temporary lot close to Poplar and Park Streets.

Use the same kind of landmarks in your own directions.

  • Start from the way most of your customers arrive, such as US 31 at State Road 32.
  • Name the lot, the street you're on and the door to use.
  • Give the walk in short steps a first-time visitor can follow.
  • Drive the route yourself once a week, or ask a regular to, and fix anything that changed.

Then check Google Maps. Ask it for directions to your business from US 31 and from the side streets. If Maps keeps sending people into a closed block, report the closure in the Maps app and mention it in your profile post.

A construction notice at the top of your website

Your website needs the same message. Put a short banner on every page while the work goes on.

  • Lead with a line that says you're open during the State Road 32 work.
  • Say where to park, and name the lot at Poplar and Park Streets if it's the closest.
  • Link to your contact page, where the full walking directions live.
  • Link to the city's latest 32 Connects notice so customers can check the schedule.
  • End with the date you last updated it, so people know it's current.

Update your contact page and any directions page at the same time. If you run specials to keep people coming during the work, give each one an end date. Our guide to keeping store events and specials from going stale shows how to retire each one on time.

Grand Junction Plaza event days during the work

Event days fill the same streets and lots your customers use. The city's markets page lists a Thursday market at the plaza each week, May through September, from 5 to 8 p.m. In 2026 the Westfield Farmers Market returned on May 7, the city announced.

Summer brings more. In 2025, city announcements listed Jams at the Junction concerts, wiffle ball clinics and a Kids' Tuesday series on the plaza. In December, Westfield in Lights brings an ice ribbon, a mailbox for letters to Santa and a tree lighting downtown.

On those days, post a profile update the day before. Say you're open and where event parking will be, and suggest a quieter time to visit. If the market crowd suits your shop, stay open late and say so.

When the road reopens, undo every temporary change

Temporary changes are easy to forget once traffic flows again.

  • Remove any special hours you set for construction days.
  • Delete the construction post, or replace it with a short update that says you're back to normal.
  • Take the notice off your website, and switch your directions back to the usual route.
  • Check that Google shows your regular hours and that Maps sends people to your door.
  • Tell your regulars, at the register and in your next post.

If an edit doesn't show up or your listing vanishes from the map, go through what to check when a business drops off Google Maps. Our Westfield business guide keeps the plaza, Grand Park and the State Road 32 rebuild in one place.

Road construction questions

Should I mark my business temporarily closed during road construction?

Only if you actually close. If your doors are open, keep the profile marked open and post an update that says so, with the detour and where to park. A closed status sends searchers to someone else, even on days you're busy serving customers.

How do I tell customers about a detour on Google?

Add an update post to your Business Profile that names the closed stretch, the way in and where to park, like the lot at Poplar and Park Streets. Add a photo of your open entrance. Refresh the post whenever the closure moves, and put the same directions on your website.

What changes in 2026 for businesses on State Road 32?

For 2026, the city's plans list the roundabout at East Street and the north half of State Road 32 east of Union Street. The 2025 phase was planned for the western segment and the southern half. Check the city's latest 32 Connects notice for this week's closures before you post dates.

What should I change back when the road reopens?

Remove any special hours, delete or replace the construction post and take down the website notice. Switch your directions back to the usual route, test them in Google Maps and check that your profile shows regular hours. Then tell regulars you're back to normal with a short post.
