A website built around the next customer decision

Got an audit report back and a developer waiting on instructions? Turn each finding into a task that says what was seen, on which page, who approves the wording and what proves it’s done. “Improve SEO” is too broad to check. “Review the service page title field, publish the approved wording and confirm it appears in the served HTML” gives the owner a concrete task.

Start with a report from the free website auditor and an evidence ledger. Trojan Digital Marketing, based in Indianapolis, builds and fixes websites. Here’s a finish line from our own website scan, powered by Jev: a paid audit starts only once Stripe confirms the payment. Jeff Clerisier, our founder, can turn your top findings into tasks with you. Send them over: the first strategy call is free, and during business hours we aim to reply within five minutes. The existing audit priority guide covers how to decide which work deserves attention first.

Bring the affected URL and the change your developer needs to verify.

Separate the observation from the requested change

The observation is what the check found. The requested change is what the page should do, and the two don’t always match. An auditor can flag a missing field, but the business still needs to supply accurate wording. A developer should not have to invent an offer or an unsupported claim to close a technical task.

Assign content decisions to the person responsible for the offer and implementation decisions to the person responsible for the system. One person may fill both roles in a small business, but the two decisions still need to happen. A technical fix with unapproved sales copy is not a complete handoff.

Write a task with a visible finish line

Task fieldHypothetical service page example
Observation
The fetched response contains the old service description
Intended behavior
The page and metadata use the approved current service scope
Affected resource
Specific public URL and relevant CMS entry
Content owner
Person authorized to approve the offer wording
Implementation owner
Person responsible for the template or CMS
Acceptance check
Approved wording appears in the served page and intended field
Evidence retained

The example makes no claim about a ranking outcome. The finish line is a verifiable implementation change. A later search performance review is a separate task with its own data, period and interpretation.

Check whether the cause belongs to a shared template

When the same problem shows up on several pages, we check first whether they share a template, component or content field, since one fix there may cover them all. One shared correction may be appropriate, but do not assume every similar symptom has the same cause. A page specific override can behave differently from the default template.

Choose representative pages for the acceptance check: the original reported URL, another page using the same template and any known exception. The limited site sample guide explains why a small sample can suggest a shared issue without proving that every route is affected.

Give content tasks the same level of precision

Map questions to the right pageFilled cells show which buyer questions each service page would cover. Performance needs separate measurement.

A content task should name the unanswered buyer question, the evidence available and where the answer belongs. For example, a service page may explain benefits but omit what an engagement includes. The task can request a scoped deliverables section approved by the service owner, with a contextual link to the inquiry process.

Avoid assigning a fixed word count as the definition of completion. The useful test is whether a visitor can understand the relevant decision. If the page needs a table, example or actual project image to make the answer clear, specify that artifact. More paragraphs alone do not prove that the question was answered.

Write structured data tasks around truthful content

When a report identifies structured data, distinguish syntax, supported properties and factual correctness. A block can parse successfully while describing information that is absent or inaccurate on the page. The implementation task should verify both the data structure and its relationship to the visible content.

Google’s structured data guidance explains that valid markup does not guarantee a particular search appearance. Do not write an acceptance condition that requires a rich result or an AI citation. Those outcomes are not controlled by deploying a code change.

Define the appropriate verification method

Use an HTML recheck for evidence that is expected in the response. Use a suitable rendered review for behavior added by JavaScript. Use the actual form workflow for an inquiry path. When the change concerns performance, use a labeled measurement method and comparable conditions rather than a generic declaration that the site is faster. For crawl access, server-visible service text and internal-link repairs, compare our technical SEO implementation scope.

Google’s JavaScript SEO documentation provides context for rendered content. Its URL Inspection documentation distinguishes indexed information from a live test. Choose the method that answers the acceptance question instead of asking one tool to prove everything.

Keep an investigation task when the cause is unknown

Make account access explicitDomain, website, analytics and customer records need clear ownership and a workable handover.

An unavailable response or ambiguous observation may need investigation before a change is justified. State the uncertainty and the next evidence needed. A good investigation can end with no code change if the suspected problem is not confirmed.

This protects the project from unnecessary edits. Changing headings, canonicals or access rules based on an unverified assumption can create a new issue. The task should explain why a change is needed, what supports it and how the team will know it worked at the implementation level.

Make the finished work easy to review

Ask for the affected URL, concise change description and acceptance evidence. Keep these with the original task so a future reviewer can understand the decision without reconstructing an entire conversation. Link related tasks when a template change also requires content approval or a separate measurement update.

Frequently asked questions

Should every audit warning become a developer task?

No. Review the evidence, page purpose and current implementation first. Some findings are informational or require content judgment. Others remain unknown until another check is available. Create a task when there is a specific question to investigate or a justified behavior to change.

Can a task promise a ranking improvement?

The task can promise a defined implementation deliverable when that scope is agreed. It should not present a search ranking or AI citation as a controllable acceptance result. Measure those outcomes separately and interpret them with the other factors affecting the site.

What makes a small handoff complete?

A specific resource, observed evidence, intended behavior, owner and verifiable acceptance check are a useful minimum. Add the approved wording or source material when needed. The goal is enough clarity for someone to implement and review the work without inventing missing decisions.
